The Truth Is You Are Not The Only Person Concerned About ZOOM FATIGUES

It is not too late to order that comfortable office chair.

I know you read that sentence. The Coronavirus pandemic has shifted many professionals to work from home.

Schools and Universities had to adjust their classroom setting and find ways to accommodate.

I remember sitting in my apartment back in January and how I was scared to see the world being shut down. I was afraid that I would not be able to go to my evening Coding Bootcamp classes.

You see, we cannot predict what is going to happen next week or next month, but we can be proactive in terms of adjusting our schedule and having awareness.

Majority of Americans are working from home and I understand there are times when you feel overwhelmed and unproductive.

Trust me, I’ve been there before

There were times when I hated sitting in a four hour zoom classes.

At times, I felt lost, unproductive, and asked myself if it was worth paying over 10k for a class over Zoom.

I was close to dropping out but I remembered that during tough times, I had three choices: The Zoom fatigues would either destroy me, define me who I was, or test my abilities in overcoming adverse times.

Fortunately, I chose the latter.

Right now, everyone is swimming through the water and we must not let the waves hit us. We must pull each other and try reaching the shore.

Below, I will share with a few techniques that will increase your productivity as you continue working from home through Zoom or whatever video chat you use.

Keep Moving

Doesn’t that sound cliche?

You might have asked, ‘How will I move if I am working inside my house’?

If it is possible, try switching locations after a while. Try sitting in your living-room for an hour or two. For example, I bought a standing desk from IKEA and every couple hours, I try to stand up for 30 minutes while I work.

I know some states restrict dine-in now, but I typically go to Panera Bread or another coffee shop near my house. I love the feeling of getting out of the house in the morning.

By any means, try going out for a walk or stretch during a call. But make sure that you are not far from home in case you need to use your laptop.

Make sure your meeting has clear objectives and time-intervals

Covid-19 has disrupted human communication and what makes it worse is having back-to-back meetings all day over Zoom.

Zoom-exhaustion is real.

I know some of you are exhausted when you are 25-minutes into the meeting. I know some of you want to exit the meeting and go back to your own schedule.

But don’t give up on your team.

What I have seen from countless companies and meetings is the lack of setting clear objective goals. Every meeting should have a time-interval where participants can view what was accomplished and what needs to be done.

Enjoy The Process

Before serious business starts, throw some jokes or talk about sports.

I know my Boston Celtics are 6–0 right now and I brag about them every day.

Talk about Netflix shows, the weather, or other activities.

Just stay away from politics and your day will go very smooth.

The future is uncertain and always remind yourself that we must be thankful for the resources and technologies that we have.
